Paul Newtson, MBA
Consultant

With 20 years of Class I railroad experience, Paul Newtson is pleased to bring his strategic and railcar fleet planning skills to Rockwood Steel. While at CSX Transportation headquarters in Jacksonville, Florida, Paul spent time working for the intermodal division, strategic planning, network rationalization, railcar fleet management, and crew management. Paul recalls the excitement of preparing for the Conrail merger and how that monumental event transformed eastern railroading forever.
Paul managed a variety of railcar fleets with increased responsibility while at CSX, eventually having more than 8,000 railcars under his watchful eye. While in that role, he provided excellent fleet management skills and customer service to customers large and small. Companies such as the Archer Daniels Midland Corporation, Perdue Agribusiness, and United States Gypsum were pleased to have Paul providing them railcars for loading. Paul is an extremely customer-focused, quick-responding, and organized individual. These traits made his customers feel at ease. Paul is familiar with railcar leasing, railcar ownership, car hire, car repair, and railcar cleaning.
Paul also has crew management experience and is familiar with crew agreements and the rules surrounding hours-of-service.
Paul has a solid knowledge of the dynamic shortline railroad industry and has visited dozens of shortlines over the past 20 years. Paul understands what is geographically needed to make a shortline successful from interchange point to the end of the line. He realizes that a shortline railroad is intimately linked to the area businesses and chambers of commerce it serves.
Paul is a graduate of the University of Florida in Gainesville, where he received a Bachelor of Science in Telecommunication and Business. While employed at CSX, Paul received his M.B.A. from Jacksonville University.
Paul loves meeting people and developing solutions to problems that plague them. He is adept at listening as a way to provide solutions to those seeking them. As a former television news reporter, Paul embodies the right blend of communication and public relations skills that a business needs to communicate effectively with employees, stakeholders, the communities it serves, and the public.
